Election 2026 Thoughts on Results

The Pendulum Shifts

Democrats celebrate a huge mid-term election 2026 today. Perhaps it is a reflection of the economy, perhaps the quality of the candidates and certainly the tone of the current national leaders. But there are also some interesting observations regarding the voting. Since counting continues in close races, I will not comment on everything.

Florida

Election 2026 in Florida could be interpreted as a continuation of a strong base of support for President Trump. However, another theory could be the loyalty Governor DeSantis enjoys among Florida residents. A few years ago, I asked two family members with differing political views what they thought of DeSantis. Both shared favorable opinions. At this point in time I consider Florida’s Governor along with Former Governor Nikki Haley and current Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear potentially strong centrist candidates for the 2028 Presidential election.

The Carolinas

Both North and South Carolina flipped from Red to Blue. I think this backlash was in response to gerrymandering and state political party manipulation. Handpicked MAGA primary candidates had trouble holding their own in the general vote. This was true in other parts of the country as well.

Kansas

Never underestimate the common sense of a farmer. Tariffs and high diesel prices are hitting the pocketbook hard. The combination of economic stress with weak or corrupt candidates turned this state Blue. However, a Congress that swings too far toward socialism will make this a one term shift. Kansans value their independence.

Ohio

Election 2026 pivoted strongly in the last few weeks of the Ohio campaign. An ill-conceived political advertisement backfired on the Republicans. Voters know when mudslinging goes too far. As a result, Trump favorite Vivek Ramaswamy not only imploded his own campaign, but other Ohio races were also impacted. Furthermore, Vice-President J.D. Vance may have lost any chance at securing the 2028 Presidential nomination due to his unwavering support of both Ramaswamy AND the political attack ad.

Local Election 2026

My local area remained the same. Red candidates outpaced the Blue team. The margins were not as large as previous years, but still significant. Inflation did factor in, but when local races only have one candidate to vote for, options are limited. Looking at the non-votes is always interesting. Abstentions from single candidates ranged from 831 to 1048. In the one contested race, only 249 of the 3,599 voters abstained. And yes, our county is quite small as that number represented over half of the eligible voters.

Final Thoughts

Those of you speculating on a third vote of impeachment, be careful of what you wish for. An impeachment of Trump places the Vice-President in the White House. Research the controversy over the Ohio campaign ad. Then ask yourself, would J.D. Vance be better than Donald J. Trump?
